Nature’s Network

Calgary AB, Canada, 2021

This mural continues the themes of isolation and socialization brought to light by Hooves, Long, and Bedford. These previous murals have responded to different stages throughout the pandemic, as does Nature’s Network. Connection and socialization is mirrored in the way bees pollinate flowers, creating invisible links from one to the next. As restrictions have lifted, people are able to interact with one another once again. Although many individuals are wary, a light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. This is paralleled in the bright, joyous colours of pink and orange. As we enjoy the summer together, we look to the future with hope and optimism.

The Palimpshed Project is a slowly developing palimpsest evolved by artists who reference and leave traces of one another’s work. The previous artist, Mackenzie Bedford, created a gorgeous mural you can see peeking through the bees, some of the flowers, and some of the stars.

Jessica was a pleasure to work with on the Palimpshed Project. Besides her skill level and experimental mindset, she always arrived at the site prepared and worked hard to complete her mural in a timely manner.  She is a positive person and displays professionality in her process. – Terese M., Curator
