Promise of Prosperity

Calgary AB, Canada, 2023

When painting murals, my goal is always to bring colour into desaturated places. With all the concrete and industrial architecture, this was a perfect location for “Promise of Prosperity”. As University District is a new and growing community, I wanted to focus the design around the idea of prosperity, represented by peonies. Not only do peonies symbolize prosperity, but also love, honour, happiness, and beauty. Tying in the eucalyptus shoots, which represent strength, protection, and abundance, this mural reflects all aspects of a thriving neighbourhood.

This bright and bold mural acts as a welcoming sign to Central Commons Park, inviting people in and encouraging them to enjoy the outdoors. This park will be a main source of play and fun for kids, represented by maidenhair ferns which symbolize innocence.

Commissioned by Studio Luma and University District to paint a floral mural for projection mapping in the evenings.
